FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - Pool Accessories

POOL COVERS

Why are there holes in the cover? Does INTEX distribute a cover without holes?

For safety reasons there are holes in the top cover. Plus, these small weep holes are also helpful in preventing rain or sprinkler water build up on top of the cover. No, all INTEX pool covers have holes, except for the smaller family swim centre pools.

My cover doesn't fit. Do I have the wrong size? What do I do?

Sometimes it is easier to put the cover on with the help of another person. Hold the cover on one end, have another person walk around the pool pulling the cover over the inflatable ring (for Easy Set pools), or down the wall (for frame pools). You can also set the cover under the sun temporarily in order to promote stretching.

My pool cover sinks, it that a defective?

No, it's normal, and it will not affect the function of the pool cover.

Is it possible to get a cover for the metal frame pools?

Yes. Covers may be obtained for all metal frame pools. Some frame pool sets come with covers included.

Do INTEX covers have the mesh screen in the middle?

No. Instead of using mesh screen, all the INTEX Above Ground Pool (Easy Set pool and Metal Frame pool) covers are designed with holes in the centre and holes around the edges, except for family swim centre pool covers.

What are the benefits of using a Solar Cover?

90% of a swimming pool’s heat is lost through the water surface; use of Solar Cover will greatly reduce the heat lost. It will prolong your swimming season.

Is the INTEX pool cover a "Safety Cover"?

No. The pool covers sold by INTEX are debris covers.

Is a cover included in all the pool sets?

It depends on what package was purchased. Be sure to read the retail box prior to purchasing.

Why are there holes on the solar cover?

The set of small holes on the centre of the solar cover are for safety (same concept as the regular pool cover). In addition to that, there are also small holes equally spaced around the perimeter of the solar cover near the edge. Sometimes you may find the holes are not consistent, that’ll not affect the efficiency and life of your solar cover.

My Solar Cover doesn't fit my easy-set pool. Do I have the wrong size? What should I do?

The diameter of the Solar Cover perfectly matches round metal frame pools, due to the shape of the Easy Set pool; you need to fold the edge of the Solar Cover under the top ring.

Which side of the Intex solar cover should contact with pool water?

The bubble side.

Why is the diameter of my 10'(305cm) solar cover not 10'(305cm)?

A 10’ (305cm) solar cover will FIT a 10’ INTEX metal frame pool or Easy Set pool, it doesn’t mean the diameter of the solar cover is 10’ (305cm), this rule also applies to all sizes of the INTEX solar cover.

Does INTEX recommend other pool covers to be used with INTEX above ground pools?

No. Always use INTEX debris pool cover with INTEX AGP.

PUMPS

Does the pump keep the pool walls and bottom clean?

No. With proper chemicals and filter cartridge replacement, the pump will keep the pool clean from suspended water particles. A pool vacuum should be used to clean the walls and bottom of the pool. Additionally the INTEX KRYSTAL CLEAR TM Saltwater System and maintenance kits will keep your pool clean from algae and bacteria. Depending on the local characteristics of your water condition, it may be desirable to add water softeners, clarifiers, or algaecides.

Can I hook up a vacuum to the pump?

Yes, the pump is designed to be used with INTEX vacuum system (#58947/58948/ 58949/18947/18948/18949) only. 58947/18947 and 58949/18949 require a minimal flow of 800 gph (3028 lph), and 58948 requires a minimal flow of 2,000 gph (7,570 lph).

The water flow is not as strong as it used to be, why?

See Trouble Shooting Guide in the Owner’s Manual. Also check the filter cartridge. If it is dirty the water flow will be much less powerful. Replace the cartridge. Also, check the hoses for any pinholes causing water leakage. And check for debris caught in the grating where the hose connects to the filter pump. The hose clamps may also be loose.

Can we use the pool while the filter pump is operating? Is it safe?

No, due to various local, state, national and international standards, the filter pump is not to be operating if pool is in use and/or occupied, although it is safe and has complied with UL, CSA, ETL, and EN safety standards.

Can I upgrade my filter pump to a larger model and what should I do if I want to upgrade my pump?

You will need two (2) hose adaptors B (part# 10722) when upgrading from 1-1/4” (32mm) to 1-1/2” (38mm) hose fittings. The flow rating of any replacement filter must not exceed the maximum flow rating of the strainer grid on the suction side of filtration system. The maximum flow of the strainer grid is embossed on the strainer grid.

How do I know if I have a truly defective pump and not just an oversight on my part?

Review the Trouble Shooting Guide in your Owner's Manual.

What is the life of the filter pump?

Estimated filter pump life is approximately 2,000 hours, which is about 3 summer seasons of normal usage.

Can the filter pump be operated when a cover is on the pool?

Yes.

Why are there two water flow ratings for my filter pump, a “Pump Flow Rate” and a “System Flow Rate?”

The two ratings relate to different methods of measuring the flow of water from the pump. The Pump Flow Rate is a measurement widely used in the industry by manufacturers to rate the flow of water directly from the pump. This measures the pump’s true capacity to move water. The System Flow Rate measures the amount of water that the pump moves when it is hooked into a pool system and has to push water through several hoses, suction fittings, filter cartridges and even against the force of gravity when the water is pushed from the filter back up to the pool. For reference, the strainer grids in your pool are always rated in terms of the System flow rate, since they are part of the pool system. Because of the extra force required, the System Flow Rate will always be less than the Pump Flow Rate. All Intex pools take this difference into account, and the pump that comes with your pool is designed to easily keep your pool water clean and sparkling. The strainer grids rated in terms of the system flow rate.

What should I do if I'm experiencing some difficulty connecting the hoses onto the black protruding hose connectors?

Due to variations in ambient temperature, PVC parts may become stiffer or softer. To facilitate the connection of the hoses to the black protruding hose connectors on the pool wall, you may use soapy water solution (mix 6 drops of dish detergent in 1/2 a cup of water) to lubricate the hoses and the black protruding hose connectors. Continue installation per owner's manual. Do not use lubricants such as machine oil, industrial oil, or house grease.

What is your suggestion on pump maintenance?

Occasionally, petroleum jelly may be applied to the “O-Ring” located underneath the top filter cover to minimise seal cracking. Check hoses for leaks and replace if needed. Also make sure you've cleaned or replaced filter cartridges as recommended in the Owner’s Manual.

What is a GFCI outlet?

GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) is a device that protects people from serious injury due to electric shock. GFCI’s constantly monitor electricity flowing in the circuitry. If the electricity flowing into the circuit differs by even a slight amount from that returning, the GFCI will quickly shut off the current flowing through that circuit. The advantage of using a GFCI is that it can detect even small variations in the amount of current flowing through an electrical product, even amounts too small to activate a fuse or circuit breaker. GFCI’s work quickly, so they can help protect consumers from severe electric shocks and electrocution while most common circuit breakers take far too long to stop the flow of electricity.

If the pump is defective will I be reimbursed for postage?

No, the pump is to be returned to INTEX, freight prepaid at the consumers expense. INTEX will pay the cost to send a replacement pump.

Should consumers repair the pump themselves?

No. Mainly because of the electrical connections' location to the water chamber, and the fact that improper repair may result in electrocution, injury and/or death.

My filter pump cartridge chamber has a 0.25 inch (0.63 cm) gap or has two dents on the cartridge chamber side threaded edge. Is the pump defective and will it cause water leakage?

No. The 0.25 inch (0.63 cm) gap or the two dents are mold-tooling marks. Water leakage is mainly caused by a missing O-ring, the O-ring is not sitting properly and/or cartridge cover or collar not properly secure and tightened.

I have a Model 637/637R/638/638R filter pump. After receiving the replacement part hoses, they do not fit into the black protruding hose connectors on the side of the pool. Did I receive the wrong hoses?
